CIVIPOL has three projects in Kenya: Better Migration Management (BMM), whose mandate is to improve migration management in the region, and in particular to curb the trafficking of human beings and the smuggling of migrants within and from the Horn;
Regional Operation Centre in Khartoum (ROCK) whose mandate to reduce the number of incidents of human trafficking and people smuggling through an enhanced regional capacity to better track and share information on irregular migration flows and associated criminal networks, and to develop common strategies and shared tools to fight human trafficking and people smuggling and our AML CFT ESCAY Project which aims to curb the incidence of transnational organised crimes and terrorism in 33 African countries, and Yemen by improving national response capacities and inter regional cooperation in targeting Illicit Financial Flows generated by transnational organised crimes.
The three of us had a sit down and constructive exchange earlier this month in a meeting that took advantage of the presence in Kenya of Laurent LE GOFF, the security attaché at the French embassy in Djibouti, who covers the whole horn of Africa.
The teams took the opportunity to present the three projects’ latest developments and how they work with one another. Although each project has its own mandate, the three complement each other, building on each other’s competence and participating in each other’s events.
