We had a meeting in Nairobi with representatives of FIIAPP and the EU ACT II Project.
The team was in Nairobi, among other reasons, to meet with our team to discuss the achievements, areas of coverage and operation of our current AML CFT ESCAY Project and the successes that the project had achieved over the last 8 years. The teams also discussed at length the upcoming continent-wide EU-led Project that will work with countries to strengthen their capacities to counter illicit financial flows.
For background, EU ACT 2 is also launching a project in Africa to provide tailor-made, demand-driven support to partner countries to respond to security threats such as terrorism and organized crime. With this background, it was fitting for them to meet with our team to discuss complementarities of our projects, possible areas of collaborations and ways to avoid the duplication effort.
FIIAP alongside our project and other players, will be a part of the new upcoming continent-wide project, projected to start in the summer of this year. It was exciting to explore ways in which all the teams will work together, to share experiences and hoped for the coming big project.
As mentioned earlier, we will be making more announcements on this upcoming project as soon as all the preparation work is ready. Our project will be part of and will give way to the new project, which will help African nations to tackle organized crime and illicit financial flows generated by these organized crimes.
Present at this meeting was Miguel de Domingo, Director Unit Security, Peace, and Development FIIAPP, Ana Zamacona, Project Coordinator, FIAAP, Maria Sanchez, Director EU ACT 2, Andrea Antonazzo, Threat Analysis expert at EMPACT EU ACT 2, Loïc Guerin, Judiciary System EU ACT 2, Paolo Iacopini, Regional Coordinator EU ACT 2 and Laurent LE GOFF, French internal security attaché to Djibouti.
