We have started our workshop and training on Asset Recovery and Confiscation for representatives of the 34 beneficiary countries where the AML-CFT ESCAY Project has a presence.
It’s a full house today, with our participants drawn from asset recovery agencies, prosecution departments, the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, anti-corruption bodies as well as financial analysts from Financial Intelligence Units.
We are honoured to have with us this morning for the opening ceremony, Ms Nsandi Manza, the chairperson of Zambia’s National AML/CFT Task Force of Senior Officials; Mr Claudio Bacigalupi, the Head of Cooperation at the European Union’s Delegation to Zambia; Ms Liya Tembo, the Director General of Zambia’s Financial Intelligence Centre, and our Project team leader, Frédéric BAYARD.
The Project is very proud to work with officials of these 34 countries, who are charged with asset recovery and confiscation of wealth acquired illegally through transnational organised crimes. At the end of these two weeks, the objective is build the capacity of the participants in asset recovery and confiscation matters, enabling them to effectively identify, trace, seize or freeze and recover assets derives from organised crimes, money laundering as well as terrorist financing crimes.
Our senior technical advisor, Tu’emay Aregawi Desta is leading the training, together with international experts Jacinta Oduor and Samir Merghoub
