IDLO’s Counter Organised Crimes Workshop, Tanzania

We attended the regional workshop in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on Transnational Organised Crimes (TOC). The workshop, which was convened by IDLO – International Development Law Organization brought together investigators, prosecutors, judges and magistrates from Kenya, Mozambique and Tanzania to reflect on the progress and challenges they encountered when addressing TOC in their countries.

Our senior technical advisor, Alma Wanyama represented AML CFT ESCAY Project at the two-day workshop, to reiterate our continued support to countries in the east and southern Africa region in tackling organised crimes and illicit financial flows.

At the workshop, the participants discussed how a surge in criminal activity in the east and southern Africa, and weak regional resilience made increasing cross-border cooperation and collaboration to address TOC an urgent priority. They also discussed joint regional initiatives and resolutions designed to inform reforms and capacity building interventions in TOC based on specific needs of each country.

We welcomed the invitation from IDLO – International Development Law Organization to take part in the workshop and share experiences with partners and stakeholders in this field, in realisation that TOC and IFFs cannot be fought and won in isolation but with all stakeholders collaborating, working together and building on each other’s strengths and achievements
